Tri-City Herald - TASTE Tri-Cities magazine, Web site to focus on local food
By Ingrid Stegemoeller, Herald staff writer Published: 02/17/2009
TRI-CITIES -- When food-loving Tri-Citians Becky Ferguson and Cory Wright watched one of their favorite local restaurants, Amici's in Richland, go out of business, they decided to do something about it.
So the two "cooked up" TASTE Tri-Cities, a new Web site and quarterly magazine designed to connect hungry people with good local food.
"One of the reasons we really wanted to start this is that we started noticing that our favorite restaurants were struggling," Ferguson said. "The main goal is to bring as much visibility to local mom and pop establishments as possible."
The official launch of TASTE is Friday at the 2009 Home and Garden Show at TRAC in Pasco.
The free quarterly magazine, which will include articles and reviews, also will be distributed to hotels, wineries, restaurants, Washington State University Tri-Cities, Columbia Basin College and more.
The first edition is 16 pages.
"The hope is that eventually we will be the Fandango of 'what's for dinner,' " Ferguson said. "We don't want to compete with other event Web sites; we're not trying to reinvent the wheel. But restaurants and bars don't really have a voice here."
